History of Scouting

Tiger Cubs is a simple, fun, easy-to-operate program that helps a boy and his adult partner gain a better understanding of and an appreciation for the community environment in which they live, and even the world at large.

Bobcat is the first rank that your boy will earn as a Cub Scout . The three most important things a boy must learn as a Bobcat are the Cub Scout Promise, the Law of the Pack, and the Cub Scout Motto. These are important because they will help him through all of the trails of Scouting.

Cub Scout Promise

I promise to do my best to do my duty to God and my country,
   to help other people,
and to obey the Law of the Pack.

Law of the Pack

   The Cub Scout follows Akela.
The Cub Scout helps the Pack go.
The Pack helps the Cub Scout grow.
   The Cub Scout gives goodwill.

Cub Scout Motto

   Do Your Best.

Wolf is begun after earning the Bobcat badge. The Wolf rank is for boys who have completed first grade(or are age 8). This is a big adventure for a boy, one the Boy Scouts of America hopes all boys will complete. How quickly your boy progresses is up to him and you. He should do his best to complete each requirement; that's a part of the promise he made to become a Bobcat and it is the Cub Scout motto-Do Your Best. The important thing is to keep him interested by working on the trail with him as often as possible.

Bear rank is for boys who have completed second grade (or are age 9). There are twenty-four Bear achievements in four different categories. The Cub Scout must complete twelve of these to earn the Bear badge. These requirements are somewhat more difficult and challenging than those for the Wolf rank.

Webelos is a program is for boys who have completed third grade (or are age 10). A boy may begin working on the Webelos badge as soon as he joins a Webelos den. This is the first step in his transition from the Webelos den to the Boy Scout troop. As he completes the requirements found in the Webelos Scout Book, he will work on activity badges, attend meetings led by adults, and become familiar with the Boy Scout requirements - all leading to the Arrow Of Light Award.

The Arrow of Light Award is the highest rank in Cub Scouting. It is tougher to earn than the Webelos badge. You have to earn the Webelos badge and at least eight activity badges, including Citizen, Readyman, and Fitness. The total must include one from each of the five activity groups.

By the time you have earned the Arrow of Light Award, you will have learned many things about a lot of subjects - and a lot about Boy Scouting.

It will be a proud day for you when you get the Arrow of Light Award. It is Cub Scouts highest award. It is the only Cub Scout badge you can wear on your Boy Scout uniform
